I'm close to completing KotOR II once again, this time as LS female and DS male (invariably I play as LS male), and I'm thinking of another alternate way to play. Specifically playing without a lightsaber, even though it's the best weapon in the game bar none. Actually because of that; things get a lot easier once you have one (or better still two). Now obviously there already is a method of doing this: using a ranged weapon. But I'm thinking instead of just using vibroblades. Or maybe even a pair of those Gammorean axes. So anyone tried this? I know I'll need that Force power that blocks blaster bolts without a 'saber just to avoid getting peppered, and more shields. Without a 'saber is there even any reason to use the combat Force Powers (Speed, Armour, Valour) and wear robes? Or should I just go all-armoured? There's something almost appealing about playing a Jedi Tank. So is this a completely crazy idea, or with some merit?

This route completes all 101 main and side quests in the game with no restrictions. Dark side or light side conclusions are chosen based on overall speed for the route. Character Build
Character Creation ---------------------------
Male Soldier - no real reason for Male, but this guide will assume it. It changes which character you have to romance; Males romance Bastila, females romance Carth. And really, who likes Carth?
Soldier is picked for its overall strength of combat and a special FLU that we'll do on Taris.

Initial Feat - Flurry
This is the same attribute plan as any%; every four levels we'll put another point into Strength. Here we put the last 2 points into Wisdom to get a slightly better Will Save, and because we won't need the Persuade bonus from Charisma thanks to our Fake-Level Up.
We get one point in Security so we can open a few doors before our first two Fake Level Ups. Our level 1 feat is Flurry because that's a better combat skill for our build than Power Attack, and we want it for the Endar Spire in particular.
Leveling Plan -------------------
This build has three Fake Level Ups in it. The first is a special FLU that works only for Soldiers, and has the effect of storing 512 unused skill points to use in subsequent levels. When this is combined with the FLU at level 4, we get 11 in all Cross-Class Skills and 23 in all Class Skills. When we become a Jedi, we'll be able to get 23 in Persuade as well.
The second FLU at level 4 gives us most of our skills, as well as Master Two-Weapon fighting for the Dueling Ring on Taris. The third FLU gives us 23 in Persuade, Master Speed, and Master Flurry, thereby completing our combat suite and making us the most Persuasive Jedi in the galaxy.

Equipment Plan
Head: Advanced Bio-Stabilizer Mask - Purchased on Yavin, 6000 Credits - Gives Immunity: Poison and Immunity: Mind-Affecting, and adds +1 to all saving throws just for fun. Good mask.
Gloves: GenoHaradan Power Gloves - Received on Manaan from Hulas - The reward for killing Ithorak, +4 Strength is only bested by the Dominator Gauntlets, which cost way too much for the marginal upgrade.
Body: Jedi Master Robe - Found on Tatooine, chewed Twi'lek corpse - The best robe we can feasibly get; the Star Forge robes are too late in the game and require too many spikes, and the Qel-Droma robes are too far out of the way on Korriban.
Belt: CNS Strength Enhancer - Purchased on Dantooine, 8500 Credits - A belt that gives +2 Strength and +2 to all saving throws helps on both offense and defense, and unlike in an Any% run, we have the credits to afford it.
Main Hand: Baragwin Assault Blade - Purchased on Yavin, 9000 Credits - When fully upgraded, this is the best melee weapon in the game. There's a reason it has the word 'win' in it.
Off Hand: Short Saber - Found on Tatooine, Dark Jedi corpse - We borrow this from a Dark Jedi that we kill for XP anyway. This allows us to use Force Jump even with the Baragwin Assault Blade, and still have a balanced off-hand weapon. It will end up employing the Solari crystal, a Krayt Dragon pearl, and the Mantle of the Force.

Credits Route
The credits route is extremely tight at the beginning, all the way up until the first trip to Yavin. The most dangerous choke point is speaking with Queedle before the Manaan Swoop Races; you must have 500 Credits to give him there. Most of the credits we earn come from quest rewards, but we will occasionally loot things for items to sell or credits themselves.
There are 10 total shopping trips in the run:
1. Zelka Forn on Taris Sell: Parts and ranged weapons to reach ~800 Credits Buy: 8x Adrenal Alacrity, 6x Adrenal Strength (700 Credits total)
2. Janice Noll on Taris Sell: Nonessential items to reach ~6500 Credits Buy: Computer Spikes to reach 10 total (0-400 Credits total)
6. Suvam Tam on Yavin Sell: Nonessential items to reach ~22500 Credits Buy: Baragwin Assault Blade and Advanced Bio-Stabilizer Mask (15000 Credits total)
7. Greeta Holda on Tatooine Buy: Advanced Frag Mine (250 Credits total)
8. Matton Dasol on Kashyyyk Buy: 5x Advanced Medpac, Hyper Battle Stimulant, All 3 Hyper Adrenals (900 Credits total)

Alignment Route
Alignment in KotOR -----------------------------
Alignment in KotOR is a sliding scale from 0 to 100, initialized at 50; higher numbers are Light, lower numbers are dark. Shifts in alignment are determined by a matrix; every alignment-shifting action is classified as Light or Dark, and then assigned a level (either Low, Mid, or High). The player character can be aligned as Very Dark, Dark, Neutral, Light, or Very Light. The more opposed your alignment and the action's classification, the more drastic your shift in alignment; for example, a Light-aligned character performing a High Dark action will have a large shift, while a Dark character performing a High Dark action will have a smaller shift.
Alignment Route ------------------------
Here is the alignment route used in the run:
- Shaardan's actions are all part of the same conversation with him when you first arrive on Korriban. - The Sith Academy, for some reason, has several actions which are hardcoded to give you a certain amount of alignment.
There are three important points in this route:
1. The very first alignment shift may never take place. Threatening Dia is only necessary if you fail a Persuade check. The conversation options are the same either way, but if you pass the Persuade check you don't get the very first Low Dark action. However, in the long run this only results in a net +1 to our alignment, and hence does not change the overall alignment route.
2. We must be at 60 alignment or higher (the boundary between Neutral and Light) in order to equip any Light Side restricted equipment. The Solari crystal is Light Side restricted, as well as being ridiculously good. So we need to be at 60 alignment by the time we place the Solari Crystal (after Korriban) and stay there in order to keep our lightsaber equipped.
3. When Persuading Yuthura to allow us access to the Sith Academy, if we are at 61 or more alignment we will have a Persuade/Lie option in addition to the normal Persuade option. The Persuade option is a Low Dark action and loses alignment, while Persuade/Lie is a neutral action. It is important to be at 61 or more before entering this conversation, otherwise we would have to go out of our way on Korriban to be able to equip the Solari crystal at the end of the planet.
What this means is we want to group our Dark Side actions towards the beginning of the run; if we're already dark-aligned, we get less dark side points for each dark side action. In addition, we don't need to be light-aligned until we equip the Solari Crystal, which is after the second Yavin trip towards the end of the run. So our character starts out pretty evil (since dark side actions are usually faster), and slowly gets lighter. You can see the overall alignment trend in this chart:
Alignment Choices in Quests ------------------------------------------
In general, every quest outcome is chosen to get the fastest time, regardless of alignment. Some notes on some non-intuitive choices:
1. Dia's Bounty - Dark - We kill Dia on Taris because we'd like her 75 XP; it's also faster than Persuading Holdan to drop the bounty, since you'd have to talk to Zax twice in that case, then Transit Back and talk to Dia.
2. The drunks on Taris - Not an official sidequest, but we kill the drunks on Taris for 90 extra XP; there's not much time loss at all because the Sith Soldiers helpfully shoot them down for us while we continue on our merry way.
3. The Promised Land - Light - Giving Rukil the Promised Land journals is faster because you must give him the apprentice's journal, and you can turn in the other journals in the same conversation. We also don't need Igear's pitiful credit reward.
4. Rakghoul Serum - Dark - Selling the Rakghoul Serum to Zax is faster than visiting Zelka a second time or delaying his shopping trip, since we have to talk to Zax anyway for the bounty quests.
5. Tanis Trapped - Dark - Killing Tanis is faster than solving the droid puzzles to save him.
6. A Desert Hunt - Dark - Killing Komad is slightly slower, but we need a second Pearl to put in our lightsaber, since the first pearl is used for the Worthy of History sidequest.
7. Manaan Swoop Races - Light - Loaning Queedle money before doing the Manaan Swoop Races saves time because otherwise you're forced to talk to Huxta Jax between the second and third swoop races.
8. Mission for the Republic - Neutral - We save the Mother Firaxan on Manaan because killing her locks us out of both the Republic Hiring Mercenaries and the Missing Selkath sidequests; it is also just barely slower than killing her.
9. Strange Stowaway - Dark - Ordering Sasha off your ship is faster anyway, but we also don't have enough Intelligence to reliably learn her language enough to communicate with her.
10. Star Map: Kashyyyk - Dark - We give the 'correct' answers during the Star Map quiz on Kashyyyk because it's faster than giving Light Side answers and having to fight the Defense Droids. The answers we give actually give us a Low Dark, then a Low Light, then a Low Dark action, which evens out to a single -2 Dark Side Points.
11. A Chieftain in Need - Dark - We side with Chuundar on Kashyyyk because siding with Freyyr locks us out of the Honest Debt sidequest, and completing that first is too far out of the way.
12. Korriban Sidequests and Prestige - Many of the Korriban choices are made because we can only turn in five prestige points before Uthar stops accepting other quests. Choosing the Dark Mandalorian Weapons Cache, Light Doubting Sith, Light Ajunta Pall's Sword, and Light Rogue Droid allows those sidequests to be completed without talking to Uthar; this leaves only five quests (Code of the Sith, Hermit in the Hills, Renegade Sith, Aiding Lashowe, and Double-Double Cross) that require getting a prestige point from Uthar. The only other possibility is Light Renegade Sith, but that requires killing the terentatek at the back of the Shyrack Caves, which is too far out of the way.
13. Hermit in the Hills - Dark - Choosing the Dark Hermit in the Hills completion is faster and prevents having to fight Jorak Uln, who's actually kind of a pain.
14. Finding Dustil - Light - Choosing to give Dustil the evidence of Uthar's treachery is just barely slower, but preserves our alignment and prevents having to fight him.
15. Missing Selkath - Light - We refuse Shaelas's reward because we don't need it, and it preserves our alignment. There is no time loss here.
16. Middleman - Light - We give Sharina extra credits for the wraid plate because we don't need them, and it preserves our alignment. There is no time loss here, either.
17. Trapped on a Nameless World - Light - As in Any%, we stay true to the Light Side on Lehon because otherwise we'd have to bring Bastila with us on the Star Forge, which is significantly slower.
Some planets require at least two visits, such as: - Manaan: You must visit to trigger the Genoharadan quests, then leave to do them, then return to finish them. - Dantooine: The Zuulan bounty for the Geoharadan is here, and can only be done on a second visit. - Tatooine: We have to revisit Tatooine at least twice to complete the final showdown with Hulas for the Genoharadan quest; we do it three times so we can do Korriban in a single visit.
Planets that can be done in a single visit include: - Korriban: Korriban does not require two visits if you get its Star Map last, since then you can do the Premium Merchant quest at that time. The Premium Merchant quest is only available after the Leviathan. - Kashyyyk: Kashyyyk can be done in one visit, as long as you visit Manaan first to trigger the Genoharadan bounty for Rulan.
Note that we also want to minimize the number of times we switch planets; every time you visit a planet after the first time, there's a chance that you'll encounter a fighter skirmish, which wastes around 15-30 seconds depending on how hot you are with a laser turret. The current route has six possible skirmishes, one unavoidable possible skirmish on the way to the Unknown World, and one unavoidable skirmish after the Leviathan.
